Since 2018, Microsoft has brought a real revolution to Windows 10. It has integrated Linux into its system and gives users access to all the features it offers, especially for those who want to develop on that platform.
Not being a separate system, it requires that Windows 10 be prepared to receive it. This was a laborious process, not yet complicated. Now, to make this union even easier, everything is simpler, faster and even more intuitive for the user.
The installation process has now been improved, abandoning all more or less complicated steps. With a simple command it became possible to have everything configured and ready to be used. It only requires administrator permissions in PowerShell or DOS, and version 2004 (or later) of Windows 10.
To achieve this you must now run the command wsl.exe --install and the entire configuration process takes place immediately. At the same time, and to have everything ready, Windows 10 will also download Ubuntu and install it.
With these steps performed, albeit automatically, the user only needs to take one more action. We are talking about restarting Windows 10 so that everything is ready. After that, and whenever they want, they can use the wsl --list --online command to see other available distributions.
These can be installed with the command wsl --install -dDistroName . To help with management they have available the command wsl --update to make updates and wsl --update rollback in case something goes wrong. Finally, with the command wsl --status they can find out how the system is doing.
This is how Microsoft simplified the installation of Linux on your Windows 10. Everything is easier and can be done in a few minutes, even for those who do not master any of these systems.
